World Aid to Navigation Day World Aid to Maritime Navigation Day

At its 13th session, the General Assembly of IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities) decided to establish the World Day for Aid to Maritime Navigation on July 1 of each year, taking into account that this It is the date of creation of IALA, with the first Celebration in 2019 (Resolution A13-04).

The main objective is to promote greater awareness of IALA and its work by drawing attention to the Maritime Community, of the role of Maritime Aids to Navigation (AtoN) and the importance of IALA's technical work in Improving the safety of navigation in all the world.

This is a date to commemorate, promote and publicize all those systems, devices and maritime port services that will serve to improve safety and efficiency in navigation, as well as the preservation of the environment.

Although unconfirmed, some sources affirm that the first official and permanent help signal for navigators was installed on the Island of Cuba in the year 1764.

Since 1968, Cuba has been a member of the International Maritime Signaling Association.
