Given the progress of the Elsa hydrometeorological event, the Territorial Maritime Administrations (AMT) carry out joint actions with the governments of each province and the Civil Defense Council to protect the goods stored in the port areas, in addition to protecting the vessels in previously evaluated shelters. for each AMT and in the case of large ships, take the necessary measures to guarantee the security of the port facilities.
Among the actions carried out we can mention:
- Preparatory meeting with the port community in the face of the threat of the Elsa meteorological event with the aim of evaluating the evacuation of ships and smaller vessels from the Port of Santiago de Cuba.
- Meeting of the Council of the Port Administration in reduced composition, to organize the measures to be taken in the Port Area in the Central-Eastern Territory.
- Check in the port of Nuevitas to verify how the merchandise that was in the warehouses was protected, the majority of which is cement.
- The measures that the Refineries have adopted to prevent the overflow of the waste pools after the flooding of nearby rivers were checked, so that this load of pollutants does not reach the Bay, especially it was checked in the Central territory.
- Participation of representatives of the AMT in the joint organization with all the entities that own boats to guarantee their protection.
- According to the meteorological situation and the need to keep the Máximo Gómez del Mariel Thermoelectric Power Plant operating, the AMT Mariel together with the Defense Council made the decision to enter the CARIBBEAN ALLIANCE tanker into port and supply fuel and guarantee electricity. for our people.
- Smaller vessels are sheltered in the Western territory, complying with the provisions of the Civil Defense Council and the procedures of the Cuban Maritime Administration, with skippers and sailors taking their vessels to the refuge in the Canimar River.
