Establishing alliances and working to reduce parcel delivery cycles are challenges faced by the logistics management of shipments in Cuba, as revealed today at an event dedicated to the subject.
The Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez, upon opening the exchange held at the Havana Convention Center, called for an in-depth study of the current deficiencies of the activity.
He insisted on taking advantage of the space to share good practices, experiences and identify opportunities to improve performance, as well as to establish goals and work commitments for the coming months.
The goal is to simplify the shipping process from origin to destination, ensure the safety and integrity of cargo, and generally improve quality, through reorganization and investments, he added.
The increase in the demand for parcel services in the country, due to the rise of electronic commerce and the impact of Covid-19, the latter phenomenon that affected global supply chains, generated bottlenecks in Cuba for the distribution of shipments.
Since then, the search for solutions to the difficulties in this regard has had the direct attention of the Government, with permanent monitoring by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, which is why the event that concludes tomorrow is a continuation of that political will.
Operators of national and foreign freight forwarders, officials and directors of the transport sector and the General Customs of the Republic, among other guests, participate in the work meeting with a view to overcoming current problems and achieving international standards in the activity.
This Friday the debate revolved around customs regulations and the main problems and prospects for the development of the parcel logistics chain.
In this regard, the general director of Organization, Planning and Information, of the Ministry of Transportation, Marcos A. Bermúdez, pointed out that among the planned actions are the implementation of computer systems in all freight forwarders, the creation of new capacities in the territories to achieve greater agility in the flow and linking of new economic actors.
